1/8 The Iceberg Principle

And so, its back to pretending
back to the drawing board

back to school and hallways

early mornings and bright lights.

She said, “Are you okay? You don’t feel robbed at all?”

My darling, you have robbed me of nothing at all.

Back to the protest

back to the church

back to pointing fingers and canceling plans

prodding and poking and trying to dodge questions.

He said, “Are you ready? Lets go.”

She said, “I’m always up for anything. If you don’t know that by now you should.”

He said, “Goddamn this fog. Is that a tree in the street?”

Back to the coast

back to the edge

of reason, of life, and all that applies.

I had a sneaking suspicion all along that you were nothing more than a boyscout and I was only the prize to be won. Do you remember what you said to me right before you kissed me? “You are stunning.” Well I am fucking stunned.

“Call and recall, goddamn why doesn’t he call?”

“You don’t want him to call, you’ll have to make up things to say, Christ you’re right, things are uncomfortable.”

I want you downtown on a Saturday night, ten o’clock and uncomfortable.

I want your tongue in my mouth, backs pressed up against the alleyway, dirty and dim, sharp hip bones pressed together, your tie wrapped up in my hand pulling you in so my hair is in your eyes, getting as close as we can as fast as we can.

You could teach me to count.

I could teach you to kneel…

Back to the drawing board

back to Plan C

back and forth

back to back and back again.

So much for sincerity

so much for the pay-off.

So much, so long, see you out the door.

List Of Things To Throw Out

-double bed (buy twin)

-milk

-heavy artillery
